Some new kid photos

Recently I’ve been playing around with the flash on my camera, and I snapped these photos. Most are pretty straight forward, but on a few, I tried for either a more moody type of short, or more of a dreamy sort of image. Anyway, let me know what you think!

Notre Dame Trip

A good buddy of mine was kind enough to invite me to Notre Dame for my first ever Notre Dame football game. It was AWESOME! They lost to USC, but man, I had a blast. Everything leading up to the game, and the game itself were so cool. I took along my camera and snapped these photos along the way. Plus, I got to meet Rudy! It was pretty neat, and he was nice enough to let John and myself take a picture with him. Anyway, let me know what you think of these photos. Go Irish!

Notre Dame Trip

Shot’s O’ the kiddos

I had a few minutes of free time this weekend, and I’ve been wanting to experiment with some lighting techniques, so I pulled out my camera and forced my kids to sit down for some photos. Some of these were lit with natural light, while the others were lit by a pin spot, bounced off a white photo reflector. I like the way these all turned out, and I think it will get me more into using different lighting styles to take some photos. Anyway, have a look, and let me know what you think.

Disney World Pictures – Round 1

Well, we just got back from our first ever trip to Disney World. It was pretty freaking awesome! The kids had a great time and so did my wife and I. I took about 1400 photos during our 6 days there, so, I’ve begun sorting through them and editing/cleaning them up. Here is a quick random sampling from our first 2-3 days there, just some that I thought turned out really well. These were taken with either my 50mm, 18-105mm, or 11-16mm lens. The 11-16 I rented from LensRental.com. Pretty affordable, and the lens was really nice. Anyway, expect a couple more follow on posts with more disney photos, but for now, enjoy these!

Lake 2011

My wife’s aunt and uncle were nice enough to invite us up to a house they rent on the lake during the summer, and while there, I snapped these photos. I like these, especially the ones of the black lab and the banner photo. I think the lab photo could be in a dog calendar, and the banner photo is just cool because of the high contrast and the way the pier seems to stretch forever into the photo. Black Swallowtail Caterpillar

I took these photos of a black swallowtail caterpillar at my mothers house. She plants dill in her garden specifically to attract these guys.
I thought these turned out very nice, so I wanted to get them up here for others to see. I also included a photo taken with the Tokina 11-16mm lens I am renting for a trip I am taking. Anyway, let me know what you think.

Chess Shots!

I had this chess/checker set out earlier tonight playing checkers with my son, and teaching him the basics of chess. As we played, I started to think I could take some pretty decent photos with the right lighting. All of these were shot with my D7000, and Nikon 50mm F1.8 lens, in aperture priority mode. Various apertures were used, mainly around F4 and F8, and once wide open at 1.8 for some DOF shots. I used a small, goose neck, desk lamp positioned above, and to the left to light most of these. Everything was shot using my tripod (my new one with the pistol grip, which is AWESOME!), and my remote shutter release. Anyway, I know these are a bit arty, but I like the way they turned out. New Random Photos

Here are a few random photos I took today with my Nikon D7000. I took these with a combo of my 18-105mm lens, and my 70-300mm Tamron lens. I think they turned out really well. Also, I know that my daughter has food all over her face in this picture, but I snapped it while she was eating and I included it here because of how blue her eyes were. The hornet photos were taken of a nest that is hanging from my garage door, and the finch photo was taken through my sliding glass door, of the finch feeder in my backyard. The others were taken in my front yard. Anyway, take a look, and drop a comment or two.

Picking Blueberries

We had a beautiful day, today, so we headed out in the morning to pick blueberries. I took my camera along and snapped the photos you see here. Well, except the two of me, which were taken by my wife. I think this is the first (and probably will be the last) pictures of myself that I’ve ever placed on the website, so enjoy!
