Flickr Portrait Shoot

I’m a member of a local Flickr group, and we got together yesterday to take some portrait shots of some very accommodating models. It was pretty cool, and was my first chance to try some shots using off camera lighting. I don’t think I did too bad, but it sure made me learn that:
A) I have a lot to learn
B) Compared to the people there, my equipment is peanuts
C) Post processing is your friend.

Anyway, here are the photos, and have a gander.

Nerf Wars 2011

Had a good day with the kids today, and officially kicked off Nerf Wars 2011. We all had a pretty good time chasing each other around with the nerf guns (note the eye protection). I snapped some pics of the event, as well as some more traditional type portrait shots. So…drop me a line and let me know what you think.

Blizzard 2011

I haven’t posted in quite a bit, because I’ve been pretty busy with a new job and home stuff. Anyway, this week we had a blizzard, and got almost a foot of snow. The kids loved it, and while we were out playing in it, I snapped these photos. I like most of these, because they are just off the cuff fun stuff. I took these with my Sigma 70-300mm, no flash. Let me know what you think!
Oh, and the banner image is my dog Chewbacca. He loves rooting around in the snow, and he actually kind of looks like Chewie from the opening of Empire Strikes Back when they are on Hoth.

Random Photos

Below are some random photos I’ve been taking the last day or so with my camera, flash, and light tent. The photos of Buzz are kind of interesting (to me anyways) because they demonstrate how a light tent can help you get some great photos. I did include a photo where I hit Buzz straight on with the flash, just to demonstrate the difference between bouncing a flash and using one straight on. Long story short, bouncing = better. The other photos are just random photos of the kids.

Christmas 2010

I thought I’d share some pics from this morning (Christmas 2010). These were taken with my D60, with my new SB400 flash attached, bouncing it off the ceiling (which happens to be off white, and has added a taupe cast to some of the images). The header image is the milk and cookies for Santa, along with carrots and fruit loops for his reindeer. Why fruit loops? Somehow, one of my twins got it into her head that his reindeer like fruit loops, and who am I to tell her that’s wrong. For all I know they do like fruit loops. Anyway, enjoy the photos and I hope you all had a Merry Christmas.

Breakfast With Santa

Today was the annual Breakfast With Santa day at my wife’s workplace. Everyone had a fun time, and we managed to coax all the kids into sitting on Santa’s lap. My daughters got Strawberry Shortcake dolls, while my son got a pretty awesome Nerf gun (that I like playing with as much as he does). Anyway, I snapped a few photos, so here you go.

Lindenwood

We took a short family trip to Lindenwood today. It was a pretty fun time, and the scenery was awesome. We plan on heading back in a few weeks to catch all the fall colors.

I took my camera (of course) and took a ton of photos. I’ve sorted through them to find some good ones, and I thought people might be interested to see them, so here they are.

I had some free time, and I didn’t really know what to take photos of, so here you go, it’s me just messing around. I took these with my 50mm lens, which as you can tell by the last pic of the tiger, has great shallow DOF. Anyway, let me know what you think.

Apple Picking

I had the day off, so I grabbed my twin girls and headed out to my mothers house to go apple picking. It was a beautiful day, and we all had a lot of fun. It was pretty neat seeing the apple orchard along with the beehives that they bring in so that the trees are pollinated.

I brought my camera along and snapped some photos while we were there. I’ve uploaded some of my favorites, so let me know what you think. These were all taken with my D60, combo of my 50mm and Sigma 70-300mm lenses, in manual or aperture priority mode. As always, click the FS button to see them in full screen.

Random Sampling of Photos

Nothing major to report. My sons first week of kindergarten went smashingly well. They have a red/yellow/green light system there, and the kids that stay on the green light all week get a prize at the end of the week. He managed to stay on green light and got a nifty flashlight. A couple of the kids ended up on yellow light and I thought “woah buddy, those kids are in for a rough year”.
